Ramadhan this year

The solar eclipse on Sunday, 11 July 2010 marked the completion of a lunar cycle and that marked the last hours of the month of Rajab 1431. At that time, when the new moon was not sighted, the completion of 30 days for the month of Rajab was followed and the month of Sha'ban began Tuesday 13 July 2010. This makes tomorrow Tuesday 10 August 2010 the 29th day of Sha'ban. Knowing the fact that the lunar month (the time for the moon to complete a full circle around the Earth, also known as the Sidereal month) is 27.3 days, and the time for the month to come over the exact point on Earth due to its rotation around the sun (also known as the Synodic month) is actually 29.5 days, completing 30 days makes us a bit into the next month and as a general conception and practice followed by most schools of thoughts, we shouldn't extend the lunar month to 30 days for two successive Higri months. Based on this generally accepted rule and having the new moon information for Tomorrow, Tuesday 10 August 2010 (and the more general information and maps we distributed with our Ramadhan Preparation programme, Wednesday 11 August 2010 will be the first day of Ramadhan inshaa' Allah.
